Staff Partner Engineer

at Pinecone, San Francisco

About Pinecone:

Pinecone is on a mission to build the search and database technology to power AI applications for the next decade and beyond. Our fully managed vector database makes it easy to add vector search to AI applications. Since creating the “vector database” category, demand has grown incredibly fast and it shows in our user base. We are a distributed team with clusters in New York, San Francisco, Tel-Aviv, and Manchester.

If you’re excited about:

  • Building robust software ecosystems based on partnership and mutual benefit

  • Helping developers succeed with more options and ways to use software products

  • Hands-on writing and contributing to code that enables that success

  • Working with people who value clarity, creativity, passion, initiative, and thoughtfulness.

Then this is your opportunity to join an early-stage, fast-growing, and well-funded startup to shape the course of an entire industry.

In this role, you will:

Help more developers discover and be able to use Pinecone successfully by building integrations with partner software companies. As a founding team member, you will help build the practice of Partner Engineering at Pinecone, including our technical practices around integration, partner onboarding, and release and development of new features. You will report to the Director of Developer Relations and work closely with the Business Development, Product, and Marketing teams.

To succeed in this role, you must have the technical background to learn cutting-edge developer and ML tools quickly, and to both write code yourself and advise external contributors on how to architect their integrations with Pinecone. You must have strong business sense and be able to prioritize work that will make the greatest impact. Our team is growing fast and our ecosystem is developing rapidly, so you must be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced environment. If this sounds exciting, we want to hear from you!

Pinecone is a distributed team with offices in New York, Tel Aviv, and (coming soon) San Francisco. You will be part of a world-class team from companies like Amazon, Google, Databricks, and Splunk. The company emerged from stealth in January 2021 with $10M in seed funding — led by the same legendary investor as Snowflake —  followed by $28M Series A funding in 2022 and $100M Series B funding led by Andreessen Horowitz in 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with our BD team to build and maintain relationships with partner ISVs, particularly engineer-to-engineer between our teams

  • Directly write or serve as technical advisor for scoping, writing, and maintenance of integration code. Ensure technical quality of integrations.

  • Work with Pinecone’s product team to onboard partners to early access features and build integrations ahead of release; be the partners’ advocate to our team.

  • Field technical support questions related to the integration

  • Build technical enablement materials for partners where relevant

  • Help measure outcomes of investment in third party integrations and plan future investments

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience working in technical partnerships for a software platform

  • Experience writing, maintaining, and shipping code to deadlines with contributors outside your own company

  • Proficiency with at least two programming languages (including one of either Node.js or Python), and willingness to flex and learn others where needed for integration success

  • Strong business acumen and understanding of partners’ operating models in addition to Pinecone’s

  • Curiosity, thoroughness, organization, enthusiasm, and self-direction.

  • Preferred:

    • Experience with databases, machine learning, or search technologies.

    • Recent software development experience

Perks and Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, vision, and mental health resources

  • 401(k) Plan

  • Equity award

  • Flexible time off

  • Paid parental leave

  • Annual Company Retreat

  • WFH Equipment Stipend
