Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure and Tools

About the Role:

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be working on these projects:

  • Build and extend the core infrastructure for the Pinecone Vector Database

  • Own areas like the distributed API gateway, the networking services, the blue/ green deployments for database upgrades, high availability architectures

  • Help define SLA (service level agreement) and SLO (service level objectives) for platform services and engineer telemetry to monitor against those objectives

  • Use and extend our observability to improve the platform 

  • Design multi-cloud abstractions that allow Pinecone to be available in different clouds and regions

  • Design and own automated build, test and release infrastructure

You will work in a fast-paced and rewarding environment that demands the highest quality work with minimal supervision. Our current tech stack includes AWS/GCP, Pulumi, Kubernetes, Go, Kafka, RocksDB and Rust

What we’re looking for:

  • Passion for building highly scalable and reliable infrastructure

  • 5+ years of experience with Rust, Go or Python

  • 5+ years of developing, monitoring and operating large scale distributed systems

  • Expertise in container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes

  • Expertise working with one of AWS/GCP/Azure cloud platforms

  • BS in Computer Science, a related technical field or equivalent experience

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with IAC automation such as Terraform, Pulumi

  • Experience building monitoring and alerting for production systems

  • Experience with Kubernetes Operator Framework

  • Experience with workflows / provisioning systems and control planes
